On Jan. 26, the Department of Education (ED) announced it will convene a negotiated rulemaking committee to develop proposed regulations related to higher education accreditation (ED-2025-OPE-1042). The Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization (AIM) committee is scheduled to meet in April and May 2026 and will consider issues related to the recognition of accreditors, accountability and transparency standards, the use of data and student outcomes, and administrative burden. ED will solicit nominations for negotiators through Feb. 27.
