The AAMC-led Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) released a June 22 statement (PDF) on the House Appropriations Committee fiscal year (FY) 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations Act advanced on June 9 [refer to Washington Highlights, June 12].
The statement commends the committee for rejecting many proposed cuts to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce development programs included within the FY 2027 president’s budget request [refer to Washington Highlights, April 10]. While the statement expresses HPNEC’s appreciation that the committee would maintain and increase funding for many of the programs, it also details concern with the proposed elimination of funding for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Diversity program and the Title VII Public Health Training Centers.
For FY 2027, HPNEC urges Congress to provide at least $1.59 billion for the HRSA Title VII and VIII programs [refer to Washington Highlights, April 3].
