The AAMC-led Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) sent an April 1 letter (PDF) to House and Senate Appropriations Committee Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee leaders urging them to provide no less than $1.59 billion for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce development programs in fiscal year (FY) 2027.
Signed by 51 national organizations, the letter highlights the importance of the Title VII and VIII programs in recruiting, training, and supporting a strong health workforce, particularly in the face of current and future health workforce shortages. The letter thanked lawmakers for providing funding for all the previously funded Title VII and VIII programs in FY 2026 and called for additional investments in the programs to ensure the health workforce can respond to future health threats across the United States, including in rural and underserved communities.
