$10.6 billion in FY 2026 extramural grant funding remains to be obligated
With only two months left for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to obligate its Congressionally appropriated funds through extramural research awards in fiscal year (FY) 2026, the agency has obligated $23.3 billion to extramural research and research training grants, 69% of its extramural budget for grants. This Data Brief examines FY 2026 obligations through July 31, including obligations to competitive multiyear-funded (MYF) RPGs.
