The AAMC has made the difficult decision not to hold the in-person Learn Serve Lead 2021: The AAMC Annual Meeting, scheduled for Nov. 5-9 in San Antonio, Texas. Instead, we will offer a virtual meeting again this year. Tentative virtual event dates are Nov. 8-10, and additional details will be shared in the coming weeks and months.
This decision is based primarily on our continued concern for protecting the health and safety of our constituents, speakers, and staff, and our sensitivity to the financial effects that the pandemic continues to have on our member institutions and their travel budgets. Additionally, we have heard from a number of constituents and invited speakers who have expressed hesitation about traveling and participating in a large conference as soon as November. Making this decision now, just as we are beginning the intensive design of the meeting, will help ensure that we can provide another high-quality, enriching experience.
We realize in-person interactions and networking are highly valued. It is our goal to provide all of us with future opportunities to engage with each other in the academic medicine community face to face. We hope to resume in-person meetings as soon as early 2022 and will continue to assess all of the options and implications and will keep you apprised.
We hope that you will make plans to attend Learn Serve Lead 2021 online in November. We have a promising lineup of topics and speakers, including Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW. Announcements of the plenary speakers and planned agenda will be shared in the weeks and months to come, with registration opening over the summer.
