Institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) Executives Leadership Development Program

    Sign Up for Updates

The responsibilities and expectations of senior leaders in Graduate Medical Education (GME) continue to expand in both scope and complexity. New and aspiring senior GME leaders are increasingly expected to move beyond day-to-day operational management to leading system-wide strategy—aligning stakeholders, navigating institutional dynamics, and positioning GME as a critical institutional asset within complex academic health systems.

Building on the success of the GME Leadership Development Certificate Program, the Institutional GME Executives Leadership Development Program has evolved to meet the changing needs of the GME community. The curriculum is designed for leaders transitioning or recently transitioned into senior GME roles; supporting the progression from operational management to strategic, systems-based leadership. Grounded in the real-world context of GME, the curriculum integrates evidence-based leadership frameworks, applied learning, and faculty with direct experience in GME and academic medicine.

By attending the Institutional GME Executives Leadership Development Program, you will engage with peers to build leadership capacity and strategic fluency across key domains, including:

    • Advancing GME strategy, innovation, and institutional advocacy
    • Developing executive fluency in GME finance, law, and regulation
    • Leading self with intention, credibility, and executive presence
    • Managing people, talent, and resources across the GME enterprise
    • Leading change and navigating system-level complexity

    Who Should Attend?

GME Executives, with up to three years of experience in an Institutional GME leadership role, who are responsible for the institutional oversight of GME at their institution including:

    • Designated Institutional Official (DIOs)
    • Assistant/Associate DIOs
    • GME Deans
    • Vice President for Academic Affairs
    • GME Directors

While this seminar is designed for those newer in their institutional roles, experienced and aspiring leaders are welcome to participate if the curriculum aligns with their leadership development goals.
