Data from the annual AAMC Survey of Resident/Fellow Stipends and Benefits are publicly available to AAMC constituents and others with an interest in graduate medical education issues. The 2021 AAMC Survey of Resident/Fellow Stipends and Benefits updated its survey invitation methodology. All ACGME-accredited sponsoring institutions were invited to participate in the 2021 survey, regardless of AAMC member status. The 2021 and 2022 reports provide aggregate data for non-profit sponsoring institutions responding to the survey. In prior year surveys, AAMC member medical schools or teaching hospitals were invited to participate and only institutions which cut the checks for resident stipends were included in the report.
In even years, the survey fields a long version which includes questions on stipends and benefits (such as in 2022). In odd years, the survey fields a short version which does not include benefit questions (such as in 2021).
The data collected in this survey have been classified by AAMC as confidential, which means that identified individual and institutional data will not be published or shared with other institutions or persons without permission. Statistics are only displayed if they represent five or more responding institutions.
