Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Print and Digital Publishing: External Audience
Gold
In 2023 Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Division of Philanthropy revamped its donor newsletter, Impact into a quarterly 40+ page print and digital magazine. Impact highlights major gifts, grants, bequests, and fundraising events, to showcase how philanthropic support makes a powerful difference in Dana-Farber’s life-saving research and patient care. Impact also serves as a stewardship tool to thank supporters who give or raise funds for the Institute. Impact is an important stewardship tool for donor recognition, for inspiring repeat gifts as well as new giving.
What was the most impactful part of your entry?
The fresh, clean, modern design of the magazine has catapulted our donor publication firmly into the 21st century and more accurately reflects Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s position as a world-leader in cancer science and medicine.
What challenge did you overcome?
Reimagining our dense and dated newsletter into a more open and modern design required us to reduce the amount of copy on each page. Our greatest challenge was determining whether to raise the giving level for a donor to qualify for inclusion in the magazine (no) or to reduce the amount of copy devoted to covering donors below a certain giving level (yes), and justifying this approach to frontline fundraising staff.
