Three brain researchers at the University of Florida (UF) have channeled pain, frustration, and determination stemming from some of their darkest personal moments into developing treatments, community outreach, and high-tech software to help others overcome injury or diseases of the brain. What was the most impactful part of your entry?
Learning about how these three investigators turned their most difficult life experiences into brain research to benefit others.

    What challenge did you overcome?
From each of these profiles, I learned something that has stuck with me: the large disparity in timing of diagnosis for Black Parkinson’s patients; the extent to which chronic jostling of the head can harm an athlete, even without an obvious concussion; and the amazing plasticity of the human brain and how, with a lot of hard work, the brain can heal after a traumatic brain injury.
