The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced two new requests for proposals (RFPs) for funding through the VA’s Pilot Program on Graduate Medical Education and Residency. The RFPs, authorized under the Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION) Act of 2018 (P.L. 115-182 §403), provide funding for resident positions and new residency programs, respectively.
The program allows funding for positions at non-VA sites, which is a first for the agency. While the VA has issued previous RFPs for residency positions, this will be the first RFP for new residency programs. New residency programs must be at facilities operated by the Indian Health Service, Indian Tribes, Tribal organizations, Federally Qualified Health Centers, the Department of War, or other health care facilities located in areas designated by the VA as underserved.
