The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a Feb. 20 executive session to vote on Linda McMahon’s nomination to serve as secretary of the Department of Education. McMahon had previously appeared before the committee in a Feb. 13 hearing, during which she responded to questions about federal student loan access, the cost of higher education, and the administration’s future plans for the department [refer to Washington Highlights, Feb. 14].
During the session, McMahon’s nomination was advanced on a party-line vote of 12-11. Her nomination will now proceed to the full Senate for consideration.
