On July 30, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee advanced the nomination of Erica Schwartz, MD, JD, MPH, to serve as CDC director by a vote of 13-10. Schwartz’s nomination hearing was originally scheduled for July 23, but the committee postponed the vote after too few senators were present to advance the nomination [refer to Washington Highlights, July 24]. Her nomination will now be considered by the full Senate.
