    Senate Appropriations Committee Advances VA Spending Bill

    The Senate Appropriations Committee on July 17 held an executive session and voted 26-3 to advance the fiscal year (FY) 2026 Military Construction, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (Milcon-VA) appropriations bill, which provides funding for VA medical care and research programs. According to the bill text (PDF), accompanying report (PDF), and a committee-prepared summary (PDF), the bill would provide $164.7 billion in total funding for VA medical care in FY 2026, including $943 million for the VA’s Medical and Prosthetic Research Program. The House passed its version of the VA spending bill on June 25 [refer to Washington Highlights, June 27].
