The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced on Dec. 11 a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the next round of Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) grants. HRSA will award 14 grants of up to $750,000, dispersed over three years, for the development and start-up costs associated with new rural residency programs. Eligible programs must spend more than 50% of their time training in a rural area in one of the following specialties: family medicine, internal medicine, preventive medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, or obstetrics and gynecology. Along with grant funding, hospitals that receive awards are eligible for technical assistance from the RRPD-TA program, which provides advice and resources for grantees. Applications are due to HRSA by May 15, 2026, and award announcements projected for July 1.
