On April 30, the House Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Subcommittee held a markup and approved their fiscal year (FY) 2027 spending bill by a vote of 8-6. The subcommittee posted its mark of the bill (PDF) and a bill summary (PDF).
The FY 2027 CJS spending bill provides $7 billion in discretionary funding for the National Science Foundation (NSF), about $1.75 billion (20%) below the FY 2026 level. The AAMC joined a March 2026 letter advocating for at least $9.9 billion (PDF), about $1.1 billion (12.5%) over the FY 2026 level for the NSF. Full committee markup of the bill is scheduled for May 13.
