The House of Representatives on Dec. 1 passed by voice vote the Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act (H.R. 4313), bipartisan legislation that would extend the Acute Hospital Care at Home program by five years. The legislation, introduced by Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa), and Dwight Evans (D-Pa.), was passed unanimously by the Ways and Means Committee on Sept. 17 [refer to Washington Highlights, Sept. 19].

Originally created under a waiver in 2020, the program allows hospitals to treat eligible patients safely at home, reducing complications such as hospital-acquired infections while supporting recovery. The AAMC has supported the program since its inception and has continued to urge Congress to pass a long-term extension of the program to avoid care disruption.
