The House Appropriations Committee on June 11 approved along party lines the fiscal year (FY) 2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs (VA), and Related Agencies appropriations bill, which provides funding for the VA. Ahead of the markup, the committee released the bill text (PDF) and accompanying bill report (PDF).
In FY 2026, without taking into account prior year advance appropriations, the bill would provide a total of $59 billion in medical services (a $15 billion decrease over FY 2025 enacted levels), $38.7 billion in medical community care (a $4.7 billion increase compared to FY 2025 levels), and $943 million for the medical and prosthetic research program (flat compared to FY 2025 enacted levels).
During the markup, the committee approved amendments related to VA suicide prevention programs and enhanced resources for the Veterans Crisis Line, as well as those ensuring uninterrupted support for the Toxic Exposures Fund.
