The Friends of VA Medical Care and Health Research coalition, for which the AAMC serves on the executive committee, urged Congress this week to provide increased funding for research, infrastructure, and information technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More than 50 organizations across the VA research community recommended at least $1.2 billion in funding for the VA’s Medical and Prosthetic Research Program (PDF), at least $100 million for major and minor construction, and at least $25 million for the VA’s Office of Information and Technology. “With continued investment,” the recommendation noted, “VA can remain at the forefront of medical research, delivering breakthroughs that improve veterans' lives and strengthen America's global leadership in research and development.”
