The AAMC submitted comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in response to a request for public comment on the NIH plan (PDF) to increase the findability and transparency of research results through the use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) and metadata. This plan is an update to the new NIH public access policy, which was released on Dec. 17, 2024.
In its comments, the AAMC reiterated its support for well-curated scientific data and the NIH’s ability to track the outcomes of its investment in research. The letter also makes several recommendations to improve the standardization and implementation of PIDs and metadata in the research process as well as additional guidance and training that the agency could provide.
