On Oct. 6, the AAMC published an updated report, Medicaid Graduate Medical Education [GME] Payments, which presents results from a survey of staff in all 50 states to gather current GME funding information, policy plans, variations between managed care and fee-for-service payments. The report provides GME leaders, institutional executives, finance professionals, and policymakers with a current state-by-state baseline for understanding Medicaid GME financing, program design, oversight, and workforce priorities at a time of significant change in federal Medicaid policy. The update is particularly timely amid growing concerns about how Medicaid funding cuts enacted through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA, P.L. 119-21, PDF) could affect state budgets, health care providers, and continued support for the physician workforce.
