The AAMC joined nearly 300 groups in a letter (PDF) urging congressional leadership to extend key telehealth flexibilities originally authorized during the COVID-19 pandemic beyond their Dec. 31 expiration date. The letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) highlighted the positive impact the waivers have had on expanding access to care for patients across the country. The groups also noted the importance of longer-term extensions in ensuring that providers and patients have much-needed certainty and stability. The AAMC has been urging Congress to extend these key waivers as part of their year-end package [refer to Washington Highlights, Nov. 14].
