The AAMC joined a June 3 letter alongside 73 other health care organizations (PDF) sent to Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Chair Bill Cassidy, MD (R-La.) and Ranking Member Bernie Sander (I-Vt.), urging expeditious consideration and advancement of legislation to reauthorize the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce development programs.

The letter specifically urges the committee to consider the AAMC-endorsed (PDF) Educating Medical Professionals and Optimizing Workforce Efficiency and Readiness (EMPOWER) for Health Act (S. 4110), and the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S. 1874), which would reauthorize the Title VII and VIII programs for five years, respectively. Moreover, the letter emphasizes the role of the Title VII and VIII programs in improving access to care and addressing persistent workforce shortages, noting that the reauthorization of the programs would help provide stability and continuity for education and training.
