AAMC Joins Letter Urging Prioritization of International Student Visa Processing

The AAMC joined a May 5 letter (PDF) sent to Department of State Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Consular Affairs Mora Namdar, urging the prioritization of international student and scholar visa processing ahead of the fall academic semester. Signed by 33 organizations, the letter argues that student visa processing delays and unpredictability can hinder the ability to attract global talent and maintain U.S. competitiveness, highlighting the positive impact that international students and enrollment have on the nation. The letter notes that previous administrations have historically prioritized the processing of student visas. Additionally, the cosigners ask for a briefing for the higher education community on how the State Department is implementing new screening policies and ensuring timely visa processing.
