The AAMC joined a May letter (PDF), signed by 25 organizations, to the respective leadership of both the House and Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittees, recommending $1.02 billion for the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program in fiscal year (FY) 2027. The letter details the importance of continued support for the CHGME program in maintaining and strengthening pathways into the pediatric physician workforce.

Administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration, the CHGME program provides funding to freestanding children's hospitals that participate in an approved graduate medical education program, have a Medicare Provider Agreement, and are excluded from the Medicare Inpatient Prospective Payment System.
