The AAMC joined over 20 higher education associations in June 5 comments responding to the Department of Education on finalizing a new information collection request (ICR) on foreign gifts and contracts reporting. This follows comments the AAMC joined responding to the proposed ICR submitted on Feb. 27 [refer to Washington Highlights, March 3].
The associations’ comments reiterated concern about undue foreign government influence, the importance of research security, and again asked the department to fully engage with the stakeholder community in further clarifying and improving data collection related to requirements established through Section 117 of the Higher Education Act. The associations did note support for the ICR’s intention to return data collection to the department’s Office of Federal Student Aid.
The updated ICR is under review for approval by the Office of Management and Budget.
