The AAMC joined 124 other organizations in a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coalition letter (PDF) on Oct. 30 urging Congress to reject the nearly $1.8 billion cut to the CDC proposed in the House fiscal year 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill (PDF).
The letter asked lawmakers to follow the Senate’s lead by developing a bipartisan final bill that provides strong, sustained funding for CDC programs and incorporates positive funding increases from either chamber’s bill. The letter also stated that the coalition opposes any efforts to cut funding for the agency’s programs or attach damaging policy riders to the annual spending bill and details how the agency supports state and local public health entities.
