The AAMC joined nine leading health care organizations on April 16 in issuing a joint statement recognizing April as Workplace Violence Prevention Month and calling for urgent action to address rising violence against health care workers (PDF). The statement emphasized that workplace violence, including physical assaults, threats, and harassment, is not inevitable but preventable, citing federal data showing health care workers face higher rates of violence than any other sector. The groups warned that these incidents contribute to workforce burnout and turnover, undermine patient care, and threaten the safety of health care environments. The statement also reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing solutions that protect providers and patients while ensuring safe, high-quality care.
