The AAMC joined 600 organizations in a Feb. 25 letter (PDF) urging House and Senate Appropriations Committee leadership to provide robust fiscal year (FY) 2025 funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and protect against cuts to the agency. Specifically, the letter called on Congress to ensure the NIH receives at least the $1.77 billion increase proposed in the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025 (S. 4942). Additionally, the letter supports the continuation of legislative language prohibiting changes to NIH facilities and administrative cost reimbursements [refer to Washington Highlights, Feb. 14]. “NIH funding is a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and medical breakthroughs, and this policy change would hinder our ability to remain globally competitive.,” the letter noted.
