The AAMC joined an Oct. 28 higher education community letter (PDF), led by the American Council on Education, commenting on an IRS proposed rule concerning racial nondiscrimination requirements and tax-exempt status for private educational institutions. The letter argued that the proposal exceeds the IRS’ statutory authority, lacks sufficient due process protections, and could create uncertainty for colleges and universities. It also raised concerns about the potential impact on institutions’ tax-exempt status and the philanthropic support that helps sustain their higher education, research, medical education, and patient care missions.
