Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday introduced a resolution (PDF) formally proclaiming June 23-27, 2025, as Academic Medicine Week and recognizing the significant contributions of academic medicine to improving the health of patients and communities nationwide. To celebrate the week, the AAMC hosted a Capitol Hill reception attended by more than 130 people — including bipartisan members of Congress and House and Senate staff. The reception featured seven AAMC-member institutions showcasing how academic medicine drives medical research, provides specialized patient care, and educates and trains future physicians, while also serving as economic engines that enhance community health and well-being. The AAMC also announced the recipients of its 2025 Champions of Academic Medicine Awards, Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), for their leadership on academic medicine congressional priorities and commitment to AAMC-member institutions in their states and districts.
