In 2023, the Senate Gang of Six — a bipartisan group of six senators who have historically championed the 340B program — launched an effort to promote “integrity and stability” in the program through legislative reform. After soliciting feedback from 340B stakeholders, including the AAMC, the group released a legislative discussion draft in 2024, entitled the Supporting Underserved and Strengthening Transparency, Accountability, and Integrity Now and for the Future of 340B (SUSTAIN 340B) Act. The draft addresses multiple aspects of the program, including transparency and program integrity, covered entities’ use of contract pharmacy arrangements, the definition of a 340B-eligible patient, and other key policies.
