Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation Essay Contest

Mar. 31 -- Submission deadline for the Lasker Essay Contest, which “engages young scientists and clinicians from the US and around the globe in a discussion about big questions in biology and medicine and the role of biomedical research in our society today.”

FNIH Trailblazer Prize for Clinician-Scientists

Apr. 3— Deadline to submit a nomination for this award from the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). The prize, awarded by a committee of research leaders, “celebrates the transformational work of clinician-scientists, whose research translates basic scientific observations into new paradigm-shifting approaches for diagnosing, preventing, treating or curing disease and disability.”

AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Award and Faculty Fellowship

Apr. 3— Deadline to submit applications for this award and fellowship from the AAMC. The Herbert W. Nickens Award honors individuals who have made “outstanding contributions to promoting justice in medical education and health care equity in the United States.” The Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship  provides grant funding to “an outstanding junior faculty member who demonstrates leadership potential in addressing inequity in medical education and health care” to support a project that addresses health disparities faced by racial and ethnic minorities in the United States.

2020 National Academy of Medicine Awards

Apr. 15— Deadline to submit nominations for two awards from the National Academy of Medicine. The Gustav O. Lienhard Award for Advancement of Health Care honors “individuals for outstanding achievement in improving health care services in the United States.” The Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health “recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations for outstanding achievement in improving mental health.”

Biomedical Technology Development and Dissemination Center (RM1)

Apr. 26— Deadline to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) for this NIH funding opportunity for Biomedical Technology Development and Dissemination (BTDD) Centers that support “projects that address any of the biomedical research areas within the mission of National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).”

NIH Grants for HealthIT to Support Cancer Research

May 9— Deadline to submit an LOI for these funding opportunities to for “the development of innovative methods and algorithms in biomedical computing, informatics, and data science addressing priority needs across the cancer research continuum including cancer biology, cancer treatment and diagnosis, early cancer detection, risk assessment and prevention, cancer control and epidemiology, and/or cancer health disparities.” 

Toward Translation of Nanotechnology Cancer Interventions (TTNCI) (R01)

May 21 -- Deadline to submit an application for this National Cancer Institute (NCI) funding opportunity. The grant funds research "to enable the translation of nanotechnology-based cancer interventions relying on next-generation nanoparticle formulations and/or nano-devices."

PCORI Phased Large Awards for Comparative Effectiveness Research

June 2 -- Deadline to submit a letter of intent for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)'s second round of large awards for 2020 to "address important decisional dilemmas that require important new evidence about the comparative effectiveness of available interventions." Proposed studies should compare clinical or delivery system interventions that already have established evidence of efficacy or are currently widely used.

NOSI: De-implementation of Ineffective or Low-value Clinical Practices along the Cancer Care Continuum

June 5 -- Application deadline for R01 grants included in a recently-released Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) from the NCI. These grants will support research to "better understand predictors, moderators, and mediators of de-implementation and/or test strategies to affect de-implementation processes and outcomes."

Research through NCATS CTSA Program: Collaborative Innovation Awards (U01 and R21)

June 10 -- Deadline to submit a letter of intent for these two funding opportunities (U01 and R21) from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program. Special areas of interest for the limited competition grants include: rural health, racial and ethnic disparities in maternal mortality, applications for machine learning and artificial intelligence in translational science, and veterans' health. 

Training Modules to Enhance the Rigor, Reproducibility and Responsible Conduct of Biomedical Data Science Research (R25)

June 19 -- Deadline to apply for this funding opportunity from the NIH for "the development of exportable training modules designed to enhance the rigor, reproducibility, and responsible conduct of biomedical and behavioral data science research, targeted to trainees and researchers at any career level."

Biomedical Data Repository (U24)

Sept. 25— Deadline to submit an application for this grant from the NIH to fund the curation of biomedical data repositories that “ingest, archive, preserve, manage, distribute, and make accessible the data related to a particular system or systems.”
