Learning Health Systems apply the data and evidence they are generating to implement improvements to patient care, population health, research training, and overall health system operations. Enhancing the infrastructure of Learning Health Systems supports continuous improvement in health care delivery.

For this grant, the AAMC will gather information on how health systems have implemented research findings to advance care and other characteristics that may facilitate or impede knowledge generated from research and patient care.
EHR Optimization to Advance Learning Health Systems
The goal of this summit was to identify opportunities for improving electronic health record (EHR) function to support the advancement of learning health systems. The initiative brought together academic health system leaders—among them chief medical officers, chief information officers, chief quality officers, and leading researchers—with representatives from government agencies, nonprofits, and foundations.
Learning Health System Research Awards
The AAMC recognized member institutions that implemented innovative, system-wide processes that improved the opportunity for research and enhanced health system and research collaboration. These processes helped to develop new knowledge, drive collaboration, and engage learners.
