Using VSAS®

VSAS® is an AAMC application designed to streamline the application process for senior "away" electives at U.S. LCME medical schools and independent academic medical centers that are members of COTH. The service requires only one application for all participating institutions, effectively reducing paperwork, miscommunication, and time. VSAS also provides a centralized location for managing offers and tracking decisions.

"How to Use" Guide for Students

Students may only use VSAS if they are enrolled at a U.S. LCME-accredited medical school or a participating COCA accredited AACOM member college and are applying to a VSAS host institution. Once you have determined that you will be using VSAS, these steps outline the application process.

VSAS is not available for international students or students enrolled at Canadian medical schools to use. Please use the Extramural Electives Compendium (EEC) for visiting student application information.

"How to Use" Guide for Home Schools

U.S. LCME-accredited medical schools whose students apply to electives through VSAS and participating COCA accredited AACOM member colleges will use VSAS as a home school to support their students' applications. Once you have determined that you will be using VSAS, these steps outline the general process for a home school.

"How to Use" Guide for Host Institutions

U.S. medical schools and independent academic medical centers who joined VSAS as a host institution will receive applications through VSAS. Once you have determined that you are using VSAS, these steps outline the general process for a host institution.
