New for ERAS 2016
Letters of Recommendation (LoRs)
Starting with the ERAS 2016 season, all LoRs will be uploaded to the ERAS system using the ERAS Letter of Recommendation Portal (LoRP). LoRs must be uploaded by either the LoR Author or their designee. Designees may be anyone the author chooses so long as they are not a member of the hospital (in an advising role) or medical school staff supporting students in the application process.
For information on the LoRP, authors should consult the LoRP section of the ERAS website. For troubleshooting and additional questions, authors may contact the ERAS HelpDesk at 202-862-6298 or sending a message.
Photos can only be uploaded by applicants through MyERAS. Medical school users will not have the functionality to upload photos but they will be able to view them in their software.
Components of the MyERAS Application
The following document types and quantities constitute a MyERAS application and as such should only be delivered to programs using the ERAS system. Programs may request materials in addition to those listed below in order to evaluate applicants; arrangements must be made to deliver those materials outside of the ERAs systems.
- MyERAS application (1)
- Personal statement (1)
- Photograph (1)
- Exam transcript (1)USMLE or COMLEX (depending on program type)
- Medical School Transcript (1)
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) (1)
- Letters of Recommendation (4)
Note: Programs may request narrative letters or use standardized letters/forms. If a standardized letter/form is used and asks that a narrative letter be included as well, then they may be uploaded together as one file.
Impact of All Programs Using the Web-based Program Director’s Work Station (PDWS)
Application materials will be immediately made available to programs after applicants assign them and either the medical schools or LoR Authors upload them.
The first day that applicants can certify and submit their application and apply to programs for the ERAS 2016 season will be July 15 for D.O. residency applicants and September 15th for M.D. residency applicants. Although we had hoped to begin queuing applications on July 1 and September 1, further testing with all the applications is needed in order to ensure this change is smoothly implemented. We realize this is highly desired and we will continue to work toward it.
Additional fields in MyERAS
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Gold Humanism Honor Society
Things we are still working on in the system…
We are still working on the following items for both medical schools and applicant users:
- While we support Internet Explorer, we have found that overall system performance is better in the other browsers we support – Firefox and Chrome. If users experience difficulty while using IE, switching to another browser may quickly resolve some issues.
- Alignment/placement of some in-system messages when they need to be displayed
- Overall polishing
