Fee Assistance Program

The AAMC believes that the cost of applying to medical school should not be a barrier to individuals who are interested in becoming physicians.

The AAMC Fee Assistance Program assists those who, without financial assistance, would be unable to take the Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®) exam, or apply to medical schools that use the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®) application. In addition, most AMCAS-participating medical schools waive their supplemental application fees for applicants who have been granted fee assistance by the AAMC.

Fee Assistance Program benefits are not retroactive. If you paid an AMCAS or MCAT exam fee before receiving your Fee Assistance Program award, you will not receive a refund.

How to Apply for Fee Assistance

Complete and submit your Fee Assistance Program application well before you intend to register for the MCAT exam and/or submit your AMCAS application.

1. Review program eligibility and benefits.

2. Complete the online Fee Assistance Program application. For help filling out your application, use the application guide.

3. Upload all required supporting documentation and signed Consent and Certification Form(s) so the AAMC can evaluate your application.

4. Once your supporting documentation is received, AAMC will email you regarding the outcome of your fee assistance application within 15 business days.
