Holistic Student Support Webinar Series: Core Principles in Focus

Building on last year’s focus on critical junctures in the medical student lifecycle, this year’s Holistic Student Support (HSS) webinar series turns to the core principles of the HSS Framework. Each session will dive into one principle—well-being for all, supportive learning environments, recognizing and supporting the needs of all students, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning—through actionable strategies, real-world examples, and cross-institutional dialogue. The series is designed for faculty, staff, and institutional leaders who want to strengthen student-centered practices, foster resilience, and build systems where all learners can thrive. We will update this page with additional information about each webinar closer to the date so stay tuned for more information!

Core Principles of Holistic Student Support

    • Commit to Lifelong Learning, Personal and Professional Development: Seek feedback and pursue ongoing training to adopt a growth mindset that enhances an asset-based approach to supporting students and engaging faculty and staff.
    • Recognize and Support the Needs of All Students: Recognize and support the different experiences and pathways of all students, knowing/understanding that they may require support at different times and in various ways, enriching the educational environment and enhancing patient-care outcomes.
    • Create Supportive Learning Environments: Develop student-centered curricula and individualized academic support capacity that will allow for advising and support systems that enable all students to succeed and thrive, while prioritizing their overall well-being.
    • Implement Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): Use a systems approach to continuously identify, address, and evaluate student support challenges and opportunities with the goal of examining the impact of interventions and promoting best practices.
    • Promote Well-being for All: Recognize and support the seven dimensions of wellness for students, staff, and faculty to create an ecosystem that prioritizes overall well-being  and supports positive behavior.
