Global Health Learning Opportunities (GHLO®)
The GHLO® Collaborative facilitates opportunities for final year students pursuing clinical, research, or public health electives outside their home country.
The GHLO application service streamlines the application process for students, enables home schools to endorse student applications and track progress, and host institutions to manage elective offerings, student selection and evaluation. For institutions, The GHLO Collaborative enhances dialogue, exchanges ideas and best practices, and conducts joint research towards innovation and building global understanding.
GHLO's New Collaboration with CFHI
GHLO is introducing eight new sites in Sub-Saharan Africa!
The Global Health Learning Opportunities Collaborate (GHLO®), a program of the Association of American Medical Colleges, is very pleased to annouce a new collaboration with Child Family Health International (CFHI)! Through this relationship, GHLO expands its elective opportunities to include community-based Global Health Education Programs for global health and medical students. CFHI's unique model fosters reciprocal partnerships and empowerment in local communities, transforming perspectives about self, health and global citizenship.
The GHLO application service currently has eight new CFHI sites in Sub-Saharan Africa--Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania. In addition to providing numerous new options in this region, these locations will accommodate medical students in both pre-clinical and clinical years.
The CFHI-GHLO collaboration marks a milestone of expansion for both organizations and we are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration.
*Child Family Health International is a non-governmental organization, based in the US with Special Consultative Status with the ECOSOC of the United Nations. Established nearly 25 yuears ago, CFHI has 37 program sin 10 countries offering 4-16 week Global Health Immersion Programs and 2-week Global Health Intensives. CFHI is a leader in both education and ehtical rigor, aligning program content with existing health systems, strengths-based engagement approaches, and essential global health competencies.
GHLObinar: Information Session for Prospective Institutions
The GHLO Team is conducting worldwide GHLObinars, an online informational session about the innovative global network of leading-caliber institutions —the GHLO Collaborative.
GHLObinars are intended for institutional employees including Deans, faculty members, administrators, and other individuals who collaborate in the sphere of global health education.

For Medical Institutions—If you are a medical institution and are ready to apply to the GHLO Collaborative, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request an application. Applications are reviewed on a continual rolling basis.
Shaping Global Perspectives
The AAMC recognizes that with growing globalization in medicine there is growing interest on the part of medical students and medical schools to integrate international electives their medical education.
Students participating in international electives are able to experience different patient populations, develop cross-cultural understanding, and learn about health systems in other nations.
