Update from Leadership
Dear Colleagues,
I’m delighted to share that we have added a wealth of new data to the ERAS® Statistics webpage. In line with our promise to share data with the medical education community, these resources include specialty-specific data for the 2025 ERAS season.
You will find cross-applications, program signals, geographic preference, interview data, and much more. There is also information on applications by school type, gender, self-identification, and other data points. Updates include two analyses – one exploring program signaling and interview invitations, and another that looks at geographic preferences and interview invitations.
We hope you will join us on Tuesday, Feb.11 for our upcoming webinar, Program Signaling and Interview Invitation Findings from the 2025 ERAS Season. We will share additional data and analysis, including ERAS application trends, AAMC research on program signal to interview invitation data, and considerations for this upcoming season.
We are committed to providing you with accurate and up-to-date information and will continue to share data online, in concert with our strategic partners at Thalamus, and during presentations to your organizations. Please invite us to your next conference and we’ll be ready to share insights and information tailored to your audience’s needs.

New Data Shows Increased Use of Residency Explorer™ Tool
Comparing 2024 to 2023, the Residency Explorer™ tool demonstrated remarkable growth across all usage metrics. Site visitors increased by 47.7%, while sessions—representing distinct interactions where users engaged with the platform—grew by 46.3%. Page views saw the most dramatic rise at 57.5%, indicating users explored more content during each visit.
These strong engagement metrics validate the tool's effectiveness in helping applicants research programs, analyze key data points, and navigate the residency application process with confidence. The tool’s latest enhancements, particularly the addition of program-level interview data and personalized profile comparison features, provide transparent and relevant insights for residency selection.
Proactive Planning for Match Week® and SOAP® with Careers in Medicine® Program
Now that the interview process is winding down, residency applicants can work with advisors to discuss their likelihood of matching. The Careers in Medicine® (CiM®) program provides resources that can help applicants as they prepare for the Match. Additionally, the CiM program provides a range of resources (advisor sign-in required) to help advisors track at-risk applicants then support and/or intervene as appropriate, learn about or refresh knowledge of the SOAP® process, as well as plan and execute the advising occurring through Match Week, SOAP, and beyond.

New Study from the AAMC and AACOM Finds Year One Residents Met or Exceeded Program Director Expectations
A multiyear study published in JAMA Network Open, authored by the AAMC and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) staff using data from the AAMC Resident Readiness Survey, found that 96.8% of postgraduate year 1 (PGY-1) residents met or exceeded their program directors’ expectations within the first six months. Specialty-specific variations suggest opportunities for collaboration between undergraduate medical education (UME) and graduate medical education (GME) to better prepare students. The survey, developed by the AAMC, aims to improve the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education by enhancing communication, providing feedback to medical schools on graduate readiness, reducing the administrative burden for program directors through standardization of feedback collection, and providing national benchmarking for medical education.
