UC Davis COVID-19 Medical Student Response

Last Updated: May 22, 2020

Description

We have a team of medical students organizing volunteer efforts to support UC Davis Health and the surrounding local community. We have students from all four years at the UC Davis School of Medicine and various students at the UC Davis School of Nursing involved in these efforts. We currently have three teams of volunteers: PPE Donation, Provider Support, and Patient Education/Outreach.

  • PPE Donation is primarily in partnership with the Med Supply Drive where students volunteer to provide PPE donations to surrounding hospitals in the Sacramento area. For PPE donations, we have also started recruiting UC Davis undergraduate volunteers.
  • Provider Support includes health professional students that volunteer to help UC Davis Health staff with childcare services, pet-sitting, grocery shopping, pharmacy pick-ups, etc.
  • Our Patient Education and Outreach team organizes efforts including translation of COVID-19 educational sheets by students, including undergraduate volunteers involved with our student run clinics and putting together information for patients about local Sacramento resources with Sacramento State social work students. We are in the process of providing telephone outreach to Sacramento County patients who are deemed at-risk or tested positive for COVID-19.

In addition to these efforts, many students are also involved in efforts within the community, volunteering at COVID-19 testing drives and providing triage and survival supplies to the unhoused population in Sacramento.
