Los Angeles Health Professions Students Provide Childcare, Pet Care, and Errands for Frontline Health Care Workers

Last Updated: April 28, 2020

Description

Medical students started a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles called LA County COVID Volunteers. We serve predominantly downtown Los Angeles, surrounding neighborhoods, and the Eastside of LA. Our sister organization is LA COVID Volunteers, which serves the Westside of Los Angeles. Together, we are groups of health professions students whose mission is to care for frontline health care workers during the COVID pandemic. We provide childcare, pet care, and errands to any health care workers who need our help - doctors, nurses, PAs, RTs, pharmacists, nutritionists, EMS, EVS, hospital cooking staff, etc. We are not endorsed by our medical schools, but we have partnered with local hospitals, and we are supporting providers from Keck Hospital, LAC+USC Medical Center, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Olive View, Kaiser Permanente and more. Additionally, we believe that keeping the community's vulnerable populations fed, housed, and healthy will help to minimize the overall impact of COVID-19, so we direct donors to local nonprofits such as the Los Angeles Mission for monetary donations.
