General Pathology, Remote Edition

Last Updated: March 29, 2020

Description

More than 70 percent of all decisions about diagnosis and treatment, hospital admission, and discharge rest on medical test results from pathology. In addition, every two seconds, somebody in the U.S. requires a blood product. Pathology is the branch of medicine that covers all non-image-based diagnostics as well as transfusion medicine. Pathology, in conjunction with radiology, guides every aspect of diagnostic medicine. The goal of this course is to understand the role of pathology in diagnosis, patient care, and management; understand the importance of clinico-pathologic correlation; appreciate the value of knowing normal histology in order to better understand physiologic conditions; and develop a deeper understanding of transfusion medicine. Methods of instruction include case-based learning, virtual group discussion, short answer questions, literature review, virtual slide sets, remote conference attendance, virtual group presentation, and a virtual blood bank tour.
