Advanced Topics in Pediatrics: An Online Pediatric Elective for Medical Students
Description
This is a complete curriculum and syllabus for an online pediatrics course intended for 4th year medical students. The course is designed to be mostly asynchronous, with one flexible synchronous component (live student presentations). It is intended to provide a deeper understanding of basic topics in pediatrics, as well as an introduction to and discussion of advanced topics in pediatrics. The goal is to prepare students for both a sub-internship and eventual internship in pediatrics and to increase their comfort level with diagnostic and treatment dilemmas commonly encountered on the wards. The course can be delivered via any remote learning platform and is designed to be taken over four weeks. It includes reading, listening, and viewing assignments designed to meet different learning styles; multiple choice questions to assess comprehension; discussion questions to incite deeper thought and debate; and a presentation to provide an aspect of peer-teaching. This is all done in small groups guided by faculty and staff facilitators.
