Faculty

Faculty Roster

GWIMS members have access through their AAMC username and password to the Faculty Roster online reporting tool at FAMOUS. The Faculty Roster contains reports on full-time faculty and department chairs broken out by characteristics such as department, rank, degree, sex, and race/ethnicity. These reports include snapshots of the faculty at any time from 1966 to the present as well as trend data (such as retention reports and promotion reports). To request full access to the password-protected site, constituents who are not GWIMS members must contact the designated Faculty Roster Representatives at their medical school. A list of representatives by medical school can be found by clicking the “View Member Directory” link at the Faculty Roster page.

For individuals without password-protected access, national data and some school-specific data are publicly available at Faculty Roster: U.S. Medical School Faculty, including a variety of tables broken out by gender. One of the tables also shows historical trends on the number of women deans. A variety of these tables (including school-specific tables) were developed to replace the tables produced through the annual GWIMS survey.

Faculty Salary Survey Report

The AAMC Faculty Salary Report displays compensation for full-time faculty at medical schools and their affiliates. Deans, Principal Business Officers, and their designees can access the data tables as well as create custom benchmarking reports. Others can purchase access to the data tables that display total compensation by rank, degree, department/specialty, region, institutional ownership, and gender. For those with designated or purchased access, the reports can be found at FSS Reports. General members can also purchase the report at a discounted rate.

Residents

  • GME Track contains a Program Survey and a Resident Survey. The Program Survey collects information about individual residency programs, and information from the Program Survey is available on online search tools (e.g., the AAMC's Residency Explorer). The Resident Survey collects information on individuals who have started, completed, and continued residency and fellowship training. Gender data are included. GME Track does not have its own set of reports; however, GME Track feeds into other reports, and special reports can be requested from GME Track data.
  • The Report on Residents is an online collection of data tables that provide information on certain characteristics of residency applicants and residents, as well as information on the outcomes of residents. This annual report pulls data from multiple sources of information to create tables that focus on issues across states, specialties, and phases of the GME continuum. Table B3 shows the number of active residents, by type of medical school (MD or DO), GME specialty, and gender.

Applicant and Matriculants

  • The Student Records System (SRS) houses secure, centralized enrollment information on the national medical student population and tracks student progress from matriculation through graduation. The SRS includes gender data. The SRS does not have its own set of reports; however, the SRS feeds other reports, and special reports can be requested from the SRS data.
  • The FACTS tables provide data on U.S. medical school applicants, matriculants, students, and graduates. These tables also show information on MD-PhD students and on applicants to residency programs. Some of the tables break out data by gender.
  • The Matriculating Student Questionnaire (MSQ) Report is a tool medical schools use annually to evaluate programs and to improve the medical student experience by surveying incoming medical school students on pre-medical school experiences, personal characteristics, career aspirations, indebtedness, and thoughts about diversity via the Matriculating Student Questionnaire (MSQ). Designated personnel at the participating schools receive school-specific and (if applicable) campus-specific reports. The standard report does not break out data by gender, although special reports can be requested for break-outs by gender.
  • The Medical School Year Two Questionnaire (Y2Q) Report is a tool U.S. medical schools use annually to evaluate programs and to improve the medical student experience. Information on the learning climate, adjustment to medical school, and future career plans of students in year two of medical school is obtained using the Medical School Year Two Questionnaire (Y2Q). Designated personnel at the participating schools receive school-specific and (if applicable) campus-specific reports. The standard report does not break out data by gender, although special reports can be requested for break-outs by gender.
  • The Medical School Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) Report is a tool U.S. medical schools use annually to evaluate programs and to improve the medical student experience. Information on the educational experiences, career intentions, and indebtedness of graduating medical students is obtained using the Medical School Graduation Questionnaire (GQ). Designated personnel at the participating schools receive school-specific and (if applicable) campus-specific reports. The standard report does not break out data by gender, although special reports can be requested for breakouts by gender.

Women of Color

The Women of Color Initiative is a collaborative project organized by the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), led by constituents of GWIMS and the Group on Diversity and Inclusion (GDI).

The goal of this initiative is to provide a platform for women of color in academic medicine and their allies to advocate for the advancement of women of color in academic medicine through knowledge sharing, project development, and community building best practices.

The State of Women in Academic Medicine uses AAMC and external data to illustrate the pipeline of women in academic medicine and science. The data present a snapshot of women’s representation at key junctures as learners, faculty, and leaders. Read more reports.
