AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) Chief Public Policy Officer Karen Fisher, JD, issued the following statement on the announcement of an agreement between leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee on a plan to address surprise medical bills:
"The AAMC thanks Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) and Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-Tex.) for reaching an agreement on a strategy to address surprise medical bills, which is a major issue for patients across the nation. We look forward to reviewing the legislation but welcome this bipartisan contribution to the ongoing conversation.
We will continue working with all lawmakers and other stakeholders to advance policies that protect patients from surprise medical bills and preserve patient access to the vital services provided by teaching hospitals and physicians.”
