Advancing Holistic Review Initiative

July 2015

The Advancing Holistic Review Initiative met in May 2015 in Washington, D.C. We had a very productive meeting discussing advancements to our individual subcommittee projects. The major topics of discussion for the Learning Environment (LE) Subcommittee, which I sit on, was progressing our work with the Academic Medicine special issue and working with the AAMC Student Surveys to see if they align with the LE. There was a lot of discussion on different definitions of diversity and inclusion—words we realize can have a plethora of meanings to different people. We are hoping to further unify these definitions so that they are widely applicable. As always, we aim to focus our projects on exhibiting why diversity matters in medical education.
