AAMC mailing lists are available for sharing valuable information and resources with our member institutions and constituents.

OSR Special Interest Groups

The OSR Administrative Board has implemented OSR Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to help sustain information sharing, brainstorming, and collaboration amongst OSR reps on topics of particular interest to our community throughout the year, in service of our mission to the AAMC. OSR Special Interest Groups will be created on an as-needed basis, guided by the interests of our membership. With the help of Administrative Board members, your regional delegates will coordinate the activities of the OSR Special Interest Groups, hosting conference calls, webinars, and other events to help connect OSR reps with similar interests in Academic Medicine.

OSR Special Interest Groups are designed to:

  • Foster student involvement and awareness of issues in academic medicine relevant to medical students in their region and nationally.
  • Expose OSR reps to broader concepts, issues, and tools in critical areas of medical student interest, ultimately allowing reps to be more actively involved and effective in their role as OSR reps.
  • Provide a richer and more rewarding professional and personal development experience for the students serving in the OSR.
  • Strengthen communication and flow of ideas between reps and the OSR leadership, inspiring the Ad Board to pursue timely, relevant, and high-impact projects and initiatives.

Each SIG will be overseen by one of the 5 committees, and the OSR regional delegates in each committee will be responsible for coordinating the activities of their region's SIG. Top 5 inaugural SIGs chosen during Annual Meetings:

  • Curriculum Innovation - Medical Education Committee
  • Wellness and Balance - Student Affairs Committee
  • Business and Medicine - Legislative Affairs Committee
  • Technology and Healthcare - Communications Committee
  • Financial Aid and Student Debt - Community and Diversity Committee

Creating an OSR Special Interest Group

Thank you for your interest in starting an OSR-SIG. To ensure the efforts of the OSR Special Interest Groups are focused and distributed appropriately in the context of the missions of the AAMC-OSR, new OSR-SIG proposals must be reviewed by the OSR Administrative Board. Proposals for new OSR-SIGs are reviewed on a quarterly basis.

You are encouraged to first look through the list of current SIGs to see if your interests are encompassed in one of our existing groups. If you are not sure whether one of the current SIGs aligns with your interests, please contact your regional chair.

Please submit your proposal for a new OSR-SIG to Alexandria (Katie) Maurer, OSR National Chair and Mary Halicki, OSR Director.
