Group on Information Resources (GIR) Leadership Institute

Information technology, informatics, and data analytics are strategic assets for the growth and success of medical schools, teaching hospitals, and health systems. To manage these rapidly expanding areas, organizations need visionary leaders who understand the complex responsibilities required to serve and advance academic medicine.

The GIR Leadership Institute (GLI) is a four-day, highly interactive seminar created specifically for information professionals who are growing into a leadership role. The GLI is the only program that provides new and emerging leaders with the knowledge, insight, and tools needed to support and advance the IT and data/informatics practices, policies, and services within our complex multi-mission organizations. In addition to IT professionals, other attendees’ responsibilities may include data analytics in the dean’s office, technology in institutional advancement, project management for technology-related projects, or clinical informatics. In its 13th year, this highly regarded program has graduated close to 400 fellows who are shaping the future of IT and data/informatics in AMCs.

The 2019 GLI will help participants understand the business and cultural dynamics of academic medicine and develop leadership abilities, decision-making and interpersonal professional skills and communication techniques to further advance your role as IT, analytical and informatics leaders. The program includes problem-solving sessions using real-world examples and case studies, a focus on personal goals of each fellow, along with the opportunity to interact with leaders and colleagues from the academic medicine community.

Who Should Attend?

Information technology, informatics, and data analytics leaders who are new to the academic health center environment, those with new leadership responsibilities, and anticipated leaders in the next three to five years. Individuals with strong leadership potential, drive, appreciation of different perspectives, and the ability to work on a team will get the most from the program.
