The AAMC has designed a dynamic workshop to help medical staff and faculty meet the challenges of modern academic medicine that are causing a rise in anxiety, stress, and burnout.

Resiliency is the essential quality of leadership that propels and sustains our ability to succeed and lead in medicine and science. To be modeled effectively, resiliency, like leadership, must be learned and cultivated within our profession and our institutions. Being a Resilient Leader is an interactive two –day workshop that will help you build your own resiliency and teach you how to exercise leadership so you can achieve desired results. You are invited to join us and engage in personal reflection, action planning, and small group work to increase your day-to-day effectiveness and optimism.

Who Should Attend?

All formal and informal leaders (from emerging leaders to associate deans and department chairs). Faculty and staff included. The workshop experience is enhanced by a mixed audience with different perspectives in the room. Examples of participants who attended previous sessions include, but are not limited to, associate and assistant professors, administrators, division chiefs, directors, department chairs and associate deans.

Onsite Workshops

The AAMC can conduct this workshop at your institution. Experiencing the workshop with fellow colleagues helps create a common language around leadership, and enables teams to apply the concepts when working together on your organazation's specific challenges. Onsite programs save on cost with an approximately 40% per person savings versus coming to a public session. Learning Objectives

At the completion of the sessions, you will be able to:

  • Assess your current ways of being and acting and how they are impacting your effectiveness and results as a leader
  • Apply the four pillars of being a leader and the structural framework for exercising effective leadership in day-to-day activities and interactions
  • Apply the Leadership Effectiveness Model and related tools to tackle your leadership challenges
  • Use emotional intelligence concepts to increase your resilience, optimism, and problem-solving ability in times of stress and change
  • Articulate your commitment to the future and a practical plan for putting it into action
