AAMC Learn, Serve, Lead Annual Meeting 2015: Achieving and Maintaining Salary Equity

Session Description: Institutions are increasingly considering conducting salary equity studies as a way to promote organizational equity, transparency, and improve organizational performance. However, every academic health center is organized and funded differently – making it difficult to standardize this process across all institutions. With the increasing amount of mergers and acquisitions, salary equity at the system-wide level needs to be considered. In this session we will explore the benefits and challenges of conducting salary equity studies, what to do with the data once collected, and how to maintain salary equity over time. Speakers will reflect on their experiences and explain how these practices work at the individual, institutional, and system-wide level. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and to walk away with best practices in conducting salary equity studies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the benefits and challenges to conducting salary equity studies at different types of academic institutions and across the health system.
  • Explore how to turn the results of a salary equity study into action and how institutions can maintain salary equity over time.
  • Identify the business case for conducting salary equity studies and the positive impact on organizational performance and retention.
  • Reflect on how compensation transparency contributes to an organizational culture of equity and impacts individual performance.
